Round 1: China

HKT Hong Kong ePrix

Hong Kong is home to one of NextEV’s state-of-the-art R&D centres, making it a fitting place to start the NextEV Formula E Team’s assault on the 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship.

Nelson Piquet Jr and Oliver Turvey will race around the Central Harbourfront area on a 2km track. From the ten turns, two of these are tight hairpins – one at Lung Wo Road and another at Star Ferry Pier – with a 555-metre straight providing a key opportunity for overtaking.

Pre-Race Preview

Nelson Piquet:

“I’m really looking forward to getting the new season started. We have some amazing new additions to the calendar, with Hong Kong being one of them.”

“If results were dependent on how hard we are working and how much we effort we’ve put into season three, then I’m hoping by the end of the season that we will be celebrating like we did in season one.”

Pre-Race Preview

Oliver Turvey:

“The Hong Kong ePrix circuit looks like an exciting one, with a number of quick flowing corners as well as long straight offering overtaking opportunities.”

“The location of the circuit next to the waterfront in Hong Kong should make for a spectacular event. I am particularly looking forward to the race due to the location and as its the first race of the season. I will be giving it my all!”

Post-Race Review

Nelson Piquet Jr (Car #3) – finished 11:

“It was a mixed day for us. The qualifying result was great, but the race result was disappointing. ”

We have to concentrate on working on maximising what we can get out of the car and strategy. I think looking forward to Marrakech we will qualify well and we just have to work hard to prepare for the race as a team. The whole team has been working so hard, and we are going to keep pushing.

Post-Race Review

Oliver Turvey (Car #88) – finished 8:

“NextEV have put a huge effort into the car and it felt great to nail my qualifying lap and be on the front row. ”

“We clearly have good pace in qualifying, which is encouraging, but we need to look at how we can save more energy over the race. We have both come away with points from this race, which is a positive start. Now we must work on building on the points in Marrakech.”
